Aren’t Fleas and Ticks Just Pet Problems?
Fleas and ticks are not just problems for your pets, they can be dangerous to you too! Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever are just a few diseases ticks can pass on. Fleas don’t just harmlessly bite you either, they can pass on the bubonic plague to their hosts! In 2017 there were confirmed cases of bubonic plague in Texas stemming from fleas. Many pet owners are under the impression that just treating their dog for fleas or ticks will eliminate the problem, however, fleas live in homes and yards.
There’s a Problem
Recognizing the problem is the first step. A backyard flea and tick infestation can be hard to discover if you don’t have outdoor pets, and if you rarely go outside. Pets often tip off owners by scratching or biting at themselves, tell-tale signs of being attacked by fleas or ticks. Additionally, yards with high grass or yards near wooded areas are environments that ticks and fleas especially love.
Ticks are black or dark brown bugs that will burrow into your skin and feed on blood. Ticks are in some ways harder to spot than fleas. Their bites are not usually felt until after they are no longer on the host. They bite in snug areas of the body like bends of the knees, elbows, or the groin area. Ticks can feed on a host for 3-10 days.
If you don’t have pets but you begin noticing itchy tiny bite marks in clusters on your ankles or skin after being in the backyard, give Green Pest Guys a call!
Fleas and ticks can hitch a ride on you from your yard right into your home, escalating your problem. Like lice, fleas can live in carpet, bedding, or clothing material.
Pets are often the biggest victims when it comes to fleas and ticks. Unfortunately, it is not enough to simply rid them of the pests. Unless their environment is under control, they will continue to be tortured by fleas and ticks.
Even without pets, interior flea problems are still prevalent, especially when rodents or wildlife may be living in your attic!
Green Pest Guys Can Help!
Before a flea and tick treatment can occur, you will receive an instruction sheet so you can prepare your home beforehand.
When your home is treated, we recommend that you and your pets leave the treatment area for 2 hours. During the treatment we also recommend that pets are treated the same day for fleas and ticks to ensure complete eradication.
The Green Pest Guy Technician will treat the interior first, focusing on carpeted or cloth covered areas and furniture. It is important that the house be picked up and clear of debris so that the treatment can be done quickly and as thoroughly as possible.
After the interior is complete, the Green Pest Guy Technician will move on to the exterior of the house where they will treat your entire property with additional focus on shaded areas where the pests are most likely to reside.
After two weeks, there will be a followup treatment where the same process is repeated to ensure that no fleas or ticks remain.
When ticks have you ticked off, and fleas have you hopping, Green Pest Guys has you covered.
