What to Expect During Flea Treatments

Flea infestations are startling and can quickly raise concerns in a household of pet owners. However, flea treatments offer a swift response to this pest invasion, offering an effective solution to soothe your pets and bring them comfort and relief. That said, to get the most out of your treatments, here is some information about what to expect during our eco-friendly pest control treatments to ensure this infestation is removed safely and effectively.

Treat your pets

Flea treatments take approximately an hour and a half to complete, with an additional two hours afterward for the product to settle and dry. During this time, it is recommended that neither the homeowner nor any pets be inside the home. Instead, we recommend that occupants use this time to get their pets treated and up to date on flea treatment. This arrangement ensures that you and your pet can be cared for while we tend to your home. Contact or visit your local pet store or veterinarian for how to best care for your fur baby.

Before treatment, we also recommend covering and sealing all pet food in your home to make certain that no contact will be made with the product during treatment. Aquariums should also be covered, and air pumps turned off. 

Mark Hot-Spots

Alert your technician of areas your pet frequents, including pet beds, carpets, and other corners and crannies, that should receive special attention. If there are several, you can mark them with a paper towel to direct awareness. Also, wash or dispose of pet bedding to clear away fleas that may have spread with your pet.

Before treatment, pick up everything off the floor-especially on the carpet. Clear out objects stored under the bed or on the floor in closets to ensure that all areas can be treated.

Vacuum!

Vacuuming after treatment is imperative to help remove any and all remaining traces of fleas. The vibration induces hatching from eggs and cocoons, accelerating their exposure to the product. Homeowners are encouraged to vacuum as much as possible for a full month after flea treatment, disposing of sealed vacuum bags outside and placing the vacuum in the garage, so persisting fleas come in contact with products when re-entering the home.

Follow-up

It is important to acknowledge that no product down can kill eggs or cocoons. While the initial treatment can offer solace for 6-12 days, eggs and cocoons will begin to hatch and rupture afterward, requiring a second treatment to respond to the problem two weeks after the first visit.
